‘I don’t think it will end anywhere’
Bangla Press Desk: Mahbub Anam, a veteran cricket administrator and director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has announced that he will not take part in the upcoming BCB election, scheduled for October. The decision marks a major development ahead of the board election, as he has been associated with BCB for more than two decades and has been a part of every board since 2001. Mahbub had been expected to run for the president’s post in the upcoming election, but recently came under media scrutiny – which many believe was initiated by people close to him. “I have already said that I won’t take part in the election unless the environment is good – and you know what is happening,” Mahbub told Daily Sun on Wednesday. “What’s going on now, I don’t think it will end anywhere,” he added.
Mahbub, currently a director of the BCB, also heads both the Grounds Committee and the BPL Governing Council. Former Mohammedan cricketer Mahbub became a member of the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) in 1986, a year after retiring from playing, representing Mohammedan. In 2001, he was elected to the Executive Committee of the then Bangladesh Cricket Control Board (BCCB), marking his first involvement in national-level cricket administration. Since then, Mahbub has been associated with the cricket board almost continuously, except for a couple of years during which various advisory committees were in place following a change in government. Over the years, he has served as vice president of the BCB and also held the position of secretary from 2005 to 2007. Following amendments to the constitution, however, the role of secretary no longer exists in the BCB.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
