IAB unveils manifesto, promises Islamic state in 15yrs
Bangla Press Desk: Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) on Wednesday announced its commitment to implementing the basic principles of Islam in governing the state within 15 years if voted to power.
IAB chief Mufti Syed Rezaul Karim unveiled the election manifesto at the party’s head office in the capital’s Paltan.
The manifesto outlines 30 fundamental commitments across three broad chapters of state construction, state reform and sector-wise development plans.
In the chapter on state construction, the manifesto includes eight points and claims that civilisations have been governed for around 1,300 years with peace and prosperity through widely practised customs and rules rooted in Islamic governance.
It also states that Islamic principles emphasise a judicial system, protection of citizens’ rights, accountability and social safety.
Another section highlights what people’s cherished method of practising and transferring power, promising to restore democratic values and bring the country out of disorder surrounding elections and voting.
Asked if IAB would void existing rules and replace them with Islamic ones if elected, Mufti Rezaul said the sources of Islamic law were the Quran, Sunnah, Ijmah and Qiyas. “Those rules are not in conflict with Islamic codes, and Islam endorses them. Based on the demand, we will take necessary measures.”
He also promised to ensure safety and security for women, but did not respond directly when asked whether women would be allowed in workplaces and leadership roles under an IAB-led government.
Among other pledges, the manifesto promises Tk5,000 in cash assistance for people living below the poverty line and marginalised communities, interest- and deposit-free loans for youths, health and agricultural cards, and balanced development between cities and villages.Source: daily Sun
