Inqilab Moncho to continue street demos until securing justice for Hadi

Bangla Press Desk:   Inqilab Moncho, a platform representing last year’s uprising and its participants, on Friday evening announced that it would continue stringent street demonstrations in the capital, demanding justice for the killing of its spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

The interim government cannot resign before arresting Hadi’s killers and ensuring justice for his murder, said Inqilab Moncho Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber during a road blockade enforced at the Shahbagh intersection.

Inqilab Moncho’s activists would spend their night at the busy intersection, Jaber said signalling the blockade would continue on Saturday.

He also announced other potential demonstrations including a siege at the Chief Adviser’s residence State Guesthouse Jamuna to “move the government into taking appropriate measures.”

Inqilab Moncho had given the interim government until 25 December to arrest the killers of Hadi, but as the government has failed to meet the deadline, street demonstrations would continue indefinitely, Jaber threatened.

Earlier, around 2pm, Inqilab Moncho activists completed their Friday prayers at the Dhaka University Central Mosque and marched towards the Shahbagh intersection. Upon reaching the intersection, they blocked it. General students and other people also joined the blockade movement.

Sharif Osman Hadi, a key figure in last year’s anti-fascist uprising and a potential candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot in the head on a campaign train in the capital’s Bijoynagar area. He succumbed to his injuries at a Singapore hospital on 18 December.
