Interim govt did not consult us over foreign deals: Jamaat Ameer

Bangla Press Desk :  Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said the party was not consulted over foreign agreements signed during the tenure of the interim government.

In a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday afternoon, he said the government had signed several agreements with different countries during the previous interim administration.“Unfortunately, the government did not hold any discussion with us over any such agreement,” he said.

Shafiqur further said that the party had repeatedly demanded consultations with political parties on major national issues, especially in the absence of parliament.

“We had requested that since the government held dialogues with political parties on different national issues without a parliament in place, it should also have consulted political parties before making decisions on important matters like international agreements,” he said.

He also alleged that the then government did not take their demands into consideration, adding that the party’s position on the issue was clear and there should be no room for confusion.

Recently, Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Minister to the new government and former national security adviser, said the Office of the United States Trade Representative had spoken with the chiefs of the country’s two major political parties before the election.

“They agreed to it. So it is not that we kept the agreement in the dark,” he said.Source: daily Sun
