Jamaat Ameer calls for observing Language Martyrs’ Day with prayers, seminars
Bangla Press Desk: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has called on his partymen and the nation to observe the International Mother Language Day and Language Martyrs’ Day on 21 February through prayers and discussion sessions. In a press statement issued on Thursday, he urged all the units of the party to observe the historic day with due solemnity and respect.
In the statement, he said, “21 February marks our glorious ‘International Mother Language Day and Martyrs’ Day.’ In 1952, the students and youth of this country launched a historic movement against the then ruling authorities to establish Bangla as a state language. To suppress the movement, the then law enforcement agencies opened indiscriminate fire on the demonstrators. As a result, many people, including students of the University of Dhaka, embraced martyrdom. The nation will forever remember their sacrifice with deep respect for establishing the dignity of the Bangla language. I pray to Almighty Allah for the forgiveness of their souls.”
It further said, “21 February is now recognised as International Mother Language Day — a symbol of global respect and recognition for the language martyrs. To establish Bangla with due dignity, its use must be ensured at all levels of state and social life. We must strive to promote and safeguard our language and culture. Only then will the dreams of the martyrs of the Language Movement be fulfilled.”
He added, “The nation is going to observe Language Day at a time when a new government, led by BNP, has been established. However, the associates of the fallen fascist regime are still attempting to destabilise the country. The people must remain united to resist these conspiracies and plots.”
