Jamaat announces two-day programme
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a two-day program demanding justice for those involved in the ‘logi-boitha’ (pole-and-oar) violence and killings that took place on the streets of Dhaka on October 28, 2006. The program was announced in a statement issued on Sunday (October 25) by Mia Golam Parwar, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and a former Member of Parliament.
In the statement, Mia Golam Parwar described the unprecedented violence and brutality—inflicted using poles and oars—on the streets of Dhaka on October 28, 2006, as a shameful and dark chapter in Bangladesh’s political history. According to political analysts, the ruthless killings and anarchy of that day sowed the seeds for two decades of fascism, the destruction of democracy, and the violation of civil rights in the country.
He noted that as the twentieth anniversary of this historic event approaches, the perpetrators have yet to be brought to justice—a fact he termed deeply regrettable and shameful. He strongly urged the government to immediately arrest and prosecute the miscreants responsible for such heinous and barbaric acts.
The statement further mentions that the central organization has announced a two-day program to demand the swift prosecution of those involved in the October 28 killings. As part of this, a discussion meeting will be held in Dhaka city on October 27, where the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami will speak as the chief guest.
Additionally, on October 28, protests, discussion meetings, and prayer sessions (dua) will be organized across the country. All branches of Jamaat-e-Islami have been instructed to implement these programs.
At the same time, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar has issued an earnest appeal to all segments of society—including farmers, laborers, students, and the general public—to help make these programs a success.
