Jamaat apologises for possible traffic woes centring Saturday rally
Bangla Press desk :  Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has apologised in advance for possible traffic congestion and public suffering in the capital centring its national rally, slated to be held at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday. The rally is aimed at pressing home the party’s seven-point demand, which includes reforming the PR system, ensuring justice for the July massacre, and creating a level playing field ahead of the election. Speaking to reporters on Friday after inspecting the rally venue, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said hundreds of thousands of people are expected to enter the capital to join the event, which may cause temporary public inconvenience. “We seek cooperation from all, especially city dwellers. On behalf of our Ameer, I would like to apologise in advance to the residents of Dhaka and the country for any trouble caused,” he said.
He further said that the party has taken various steps to keep the public suffering to a minimum.Mentioning that preparations had been underway for weeks, he said arrangements are being made with the monsoon season in mind. About 6,000 volunteers from eight organisational divisions will be deployed to maintain order, ensure security, and assist guests at the venue, he added. The Jamaat leader said the party has communicated with various government agencies, including the home affairs adviser, the DMP commissioner, and intelligence bodies, regarding law and order and received assurances of administrative cooperation.
“We’ve also held several meetings with the traffic division to coordinate the arrival of supporters from outside Dhaka,” he said, adding that discussions have taken place about where incoming buses would stop.Parwar said people from across the country would begin arriving in the capital by road, river, and rail from Friday night. “We hope no one will face harassment, and that the rally will be held in a peaceful environment,” he said.
