Jamaat hesitant to endorse July Charter without clear roadmap
Bangla Press Desk: Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that a delegation will attend the July Charter signing ceremony but will not sign the document unless the implementation mechanism is clearly defined.
Assistant Secretary General Hamidur Rahman Azad confirmed the decision on Friday, stressing the need to ensure legal legitimacy for the charter.
He reiterated the party’s stance on the legal basis of the charter. “There is uncertainty regarding the legal foundation of the July Charter. A national referendum is essential to give it legitimacy. If the BNP obstructs the referendum, it will face the same fate as the Awami League,” he warned.
Jamaat’s participation in the ceremony, despite its reservations, is being seen as a strategic move to keep its options open while maintaining pressure on the organisers to ensure legal guarantees before any formal commitment.
