Jamaat leadership removes foreign affairs adviser after ministry letter
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Shafiqur Rahman has relieved his foreign affairs adviser, Prof Md Mahmudul Hasan, of his position over allegations of sending a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs without the Ameer’s consent.
At the same time, Barister Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman, MP for Dhaka-14, has been appointed the new foreign affairs adviser.
The party’s Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar confirmed the decision in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the incident reported in the media occurred nearly two weeks ago. Prof Mahmudul Hasan, then serving as the Jamaat Ameer’s foreign affairs adviser, had briefed the party chief about the letter but presented the matter in a different context. A later review revealed that the content of the letter, particularly the section requesting the minister’s rank, was not approved by the Ameer.
Once the issue came to light, Shafiqur Rahman took immediate action and relieved Mahmudul Hasan of his duties.
"To clarify the misunderstanding, the party contacted the Foreign Minister directly by phone and informed him that the party chief had not approved the letter. The Foreign Ministry was also notified about the change of adviser, resolving the matter promptly," the statement added. Source: daily Sun
