Jamaat Won’t Play Conventional Opposition Role in Parliament: Shafiqur

Bangla Press Desk:  Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman has announced that his party will not play the role of a conventional opposition party in the National Parliament.

He made the remarks on Saturday while attending an iftar event organised by the party, outlining Jamaat’s position in the current political context. Shafiqur said that the people of the country had been waiting for a united Bangladesh for the past 18 years.

Reflecting that aspiration, he said, Jamaat would not oppose the government merely for the sake of opposition in parliament.

Instead, he added that the party would extend full cooperation to any positive and welfare-oriented initiatives undertaken by the government for the overall development of the country. However, he warned that if any government decision goes against public interest, Jamaat would strongly oppose it.

He said the objective of his statement was to affirm Jamaat’s commitment to acting as a responsible and constructive opposition party in parliament.Source: daily Sun
