Janaza and Prayer Gathering

Staff Reporter:The first Janaza prayer and doa mahfil for Bangladeshi young engineer Shakib Ali were held at an Islamic Center in Los Angeles, California. The Janaza took place on wednesday at 8:00 PM local time (11:00 PM New York time), with prominent members of the Bangladeshi community and people from various backgrounds in attendance.

Following the completion of death certificate formalities, Shakib’s body was transported on Thursday morning to Atlanta, Georgia, accompanied by his parents and community leaders. A second Janaza will be held on Friday after Jummah prayers at the Bethlehem Mosque in Georgia, according to sources from the Georgia Bangladesh Society.

Following the first Janaza prayer for Shakib Ali on Wednesday, a doa mahfil was held at India’s Clay Pit restaurant.The event was jointly organized by prominent members of the Los Angeles Bangladeshi community, including former FOBANA Chairperson Masud Rob Chowdhury, Syedul Hoque Sentu, Dr. Rabi Alam, Nazrul Alam, and Rafiq ul Islam.

Shakib’s father Dr. Muhammad Ali Manik, his mother Shakira Ali Bacchi, and people from various walks of life were present at the gathering.

Shakib Ali’s body was discovered on monday morning at his apartment in Marina del Rey, California, after his parents became concerned when they were unable to reach him for several days. Police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy.

Shakib, 32, worked as a software engineer at Amazon and had moved to California just six months ago for his job.

Leaders and members of the U.S. Awami League, Georgia Bangladesh Society, and the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA) have expressed deep condolences over his untimely death.

Meanwhile, the Georgia Bangladesh Society has postponed its scheduled Boishakhi Mela and cultural program on April 12 following his passing.
