JU student Sharmin murder: Husband put on 2-day remand

Bangla Press Desk:  A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Fahim Al Hasan on a two-day remand in connection with the murder of his wife, Sharmin Jahan, a student of Jahangirnagar University, who was found dead at a rented house in Savar, Dhaka.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman passed the order after a hearing. On 16 March, Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector Shahiduzzaman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court and submitted a petition seeking a five-day remand for interrogation.

However, the court ordered that the accused be sent to jail and scheduled the remand hearing for 24 March.

According to the case statement, Sharmin Jahan was a fourth-year student of the Department of Public Administration at Jahangirnagar University. She married Fahim, a fourth-year student of Dhaka College, on 24 June last year after a romantic relationship.

In September last year, they started living together in a rented house in the Islamnagar area near the university. After the marriage, Sharmin had informed her family members about disputes that arose between them over various family matters.

The complaint further states that around 4:45pm on 15 March, Fahim called Sharmin’s uncle, Monirul Islam, and asked him to come to their residence, saying that Sharmin was seriously ill. When Monirul arrived, he found Sharmin lying on the bed, covered in blood.

She was later taken to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.

Citing the inquest report, the complaint mentions that Sharmin had deep, bloodied cuts on the right side of her forehead and the upper part of her head.Source: daily sun
