Mamunul lodges GD against unfair practices of Facebook
Bangla Press Desk: Maulana Mamunul Haque, Ameer of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, filed a General Diary (GD) at Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka on Monday, against the Facebook authorities, alleging unilateral, undemocratic and discriminatory treatment by the social media platform. Mamunul Haque, now the chief patron of the Sheikh al-Hadith Council, has claimed that he is facing unilateral, undemocratic and discriminatory treatment by Facebook. He said that his personal Facebook account and official page are being repeatedly removed and suspended. Not only that, but whenever his name, statements or photos are published, party pages, media outlets and personal accounts face unreasonable restrictions, read the statement.
In this circumstance, he filed the GD, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis said in a press statement issued on Monday to inform the people about the matter. In the GD, he said, “My name, statements, and photos have unfairly been restricted and blocked on Facebook over the past few months. As a result, my personal Facebook ID https://www.facebook.com/mawlanamamunulhaqueofficial and my official page https://www.facebook.com/MaulanaMamunulHaque have been reputedly shut down. “As a result, I am experiencing social, professional and political harm significantly,” he said in the GD. He further said that despite being the head of a registered political party, he is being deliberately blocked from social media, which is a clear attempt to thwart democratic politics in the country.
Mamunul hoped that the authorities concerned would reconsider the matter and take a fair decision in this regard. The Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis believes that using social media to target and obstruct a political leader constitutes a serious attack on freedom of expression and democratic rights. Mamunul is now widely known as an Islamist leader and the Joint Secretary-General of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. He is recognised for his strong advocacy for an Islamic state and his leadership in protests against sculpture construction and foreign policy, which led to his imprisonment and significant legal challenges.
