Man arrested over fraudulence in Ctg
Bangla Press Desk: Police arrested one person on charge of fraudulence with people through using edited image of high ups of the government from Patiya upazila in Chattogram on Sunday.
The arrestee was identified as Riad Bin Selim, 40, a resident of Pikepara area under Patiya municipality.Police said Selim used artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create fake photographs of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and circulated them on social media to build credibility and carry out fraudulence.
During the arrest, law enforcers recovered an identity card labeled “CSF- Chairman’s Security Force,” a hand-held metal detector, a walkie-talkie set, signal lights, and several mobile phones.
Chattogram Range Additional Deputy Inspector General (Crime) Md Nazmul Hasan at a press conference at the SP Office on Sunday said the operation was launched following multiple complaints that the accused had been defrauding people by exploiting the home minister’s name.
Selim used to post AI-generated images on his Facebook profile, falsely portraying himself as closely associated with the minister.In one reported incident, Selim allegedly extorted Tk215,000 from a man named Kamrul Hasan, a resident of Debidwar in Cumilla, by promising to secure his release from jail.
A case has been filed with Patiya Police Station in connection with the incident.
The arrestee is also accused of several cases filed with different police stations, said police.
