Man beaten to death over theft charges in Ctg
Bangla Press Desk: A 40-year-old man was beaten to death during an arbitration over theft charges at Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Absar, 40, son of Nabiur Rahman from Dantmara union under Bhujpur Police Station of the upazila.Sources said a local arbitration was convened around 5:00pm after allegations surfaced that Absar and his brother had stolen a water pump.
At one stage of the arbitration, the complainants allegedly started beating Absar and his brother Md Russel, 32.
Both Absar and Russell sustained severe injuries during the attack. Later, their mother, Jahanara, rescued them with the help of locals and took them to Fatikchhari Upazila Health Complex, where Absar succumbed to his injuries around 10:00pm.Officer in-Charge of Bhujpur Police Station Bipul Chandra Dey said, “We went to the victims’ house after receiving a call via the 999 emergency hotline and recovered the body from the hospital later.”
Injured Russell was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment, he said, adding that legal action in this connection was underway.
