Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court has granted the Detective Branch (DB) of police an additional three days to interrogate Manzil Haider Chowdhury, a former officer of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), in connection with the “murder” of businessman Abdul Wadud during the July Uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order on Monday following a hearing, confirmed state counsel Jamal Uddin Marjin.
Police arrested Manzil on Thursday in Dhaka’s Mohakhali DOHS.
He was initially placed on a four-day remand on Apr 10.
Inspector Amjad Hossain Talukder of the DB’s Ramna Zone produced the suspect in court with a prayer for a further seven-day interrogation.
Jamal argued in favour of the remand, while defence counsel Kamal Hossain moved a petition seeking bail and the cancellation of the remand plea.
After hearing both sides, the court sanctioned three days in police custody.
The case stems from the death of businessman Wadud, who was shot and killed in Nilkhet on the afternoon of Jul 19, 2024, during the mass student-led movement.
Wadud’s brother-in-law Abdur Rob subsequently filed a murder case at the New Market Police Station.
The legal action names 130 individuals, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former minister Obaidul Quader, as suspects.
