New Agreement with Comilla College
Meritorious students of two universities from Dhaka receive Tk 5 lakh in ‘FOBANA Scholarship'
Staff Reporter: This year, meritorious students from two universities in Dhaka have received a total of Tk 500,000 in scholarships under the FOBANA Scholarship program. On behalf of the Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America (FOBANA)—the largest Bangladeshi umbrella organization in North America—scholarships were awarded to outstanding students of Jagannath University and the University of Dhaka.
Members of the FOBANA Scholarship Award Committee have been regularly providing scholarships to these two institutions for the past three years. This information was confirmed to the media by Khaled Ahmed Rauf, Executive Secretary of FOBANA’s current committee.
Recently, Tk 200,000 in scholarships was handed over to five meritorious students of Jagannath University. Earlier, last month, Tk 300,000 was distributed among outstanding students of the University of Dhaka. Altogether, the total Tk 500,000 in grants is expected to inspire students in pursuing higher education.
To attend the scholarship award ceremonies, Rehan Reza, Chairman of the FOBANA Scholarship Award Committee, traveled to Bangladesh and personally presented the awards to the students. He was assisted at the events by Makbul Ali, convener of the 36th FOBANA Convention held in 2022.

After distributing the scholarships, Rehan Reza said that the FOBANA convention in the United States is not limited to music and dance entertainment alone; FOBANA is also actively engaged in humanitarian work. During times of disaster, FOBANA leaders have stood beside distressed communities and provided assistance in various ways. In addition to helping flood-affected people in Bangladesh, FOBANA has also arranged educational scholarships for students growing up in the diaspora.
With the aim of further expanding its educational support initiatives, FOBANA has made a new announcement. From next year, meritorious students of Comilla College will also be brought under the scholarship program, following the signing of a new agreement between the college and FOBANA authorities.
Khaled Ahmed Rauf, Executive Secretary of the current FOBANA committee, said that FOBANA remains firmly committed to standing beside the country’s talented students, even while operating from abroad.
Under the leadership of current Executive Committee President Rabiul Karim Belal, Executive Secretary Khaled Ahmed Rauf, and Convener Zainal Abedin, the 40th FOBANA Convention will be held next year (2026) in Los Angeles, California, United States.
