Mystery behind death of Bangladeshi teen Nishat in New York revealed

Ema Alice: A 19-year-old Bangladeshi young woman, Jannath Nishat, who was killed in a road accident in Queens, New York, had gone to buy a cake for her younger sister’s birthday, her family and close ones said. As the news of Jannath Nishat’s untimely death quickly spread on social media, a shadow of grief fell among expatriates across New York and the entire United States.
Family friend Amin Mehedi said, her younger sister had asked her to buy a cake. She went to the store and was returning home. Family members were waiting, but she was not coming back. Later, one of her sisters found her by tracking the last location of her phone.
It is known that Nishat worked as a part-time cashier at a parking garage in Jamaica. On her way home after work, she stopped to buy the cake. Then the tragic accident occurred.

At around 11:55 p.m. on Sunday night, while crossing 62nd Street in the Woodside area, a private sanitation truck hit her. The truck was turning from Roosevelt Avenue. The accident site was about half a mile from her home. She died at the scene.
Nishat was a student of the City College of New York in Manhattan. Her death has brought deep mourning to the family, especially for her younger sister, whose birthday will now forever be associated with this tragic incident.
Amin Mehedi said, we are all deeply shocked. We never imagined that someone would lose her life like this at such a young age. She was a hardworking girl, was studying, and was trying to build her future.
The victim’s cousin Mohammad Siddik said, the entire family is devastated. She was a very good and talented student. She was very caring toward her parents. At a young age, she started working to support her family.
On Tuesday, her funeral prayer was held at Baitul Jannah Masjid near her home, where relatives and friends gathered to pay their last respects.
The 38-year-old truck driver remained at the scene and was not immediately charged. Nishat is survived by her parents and four sisters.
