Bangla Press Desk: The inaugural ceremony of the national English spelling competition ‘Shaheen Education Family–Channel i Spelling Star 2026’, jointly organized by Shaheen Education Family and Channel i with the aim of increasing the English spelling skills, vocabulary, language knowledge and confidence of the 4th and 5th grade students of Bangla medium schools and madrasas of the country, was held in a grand atmosphere at the Channel i building in the capital on Saturday. The Daily Jugantor is associated as a media partner in this event.
State Minister for Education Bobby Hajjaj was present as the chief guest at the event.
In his welcome speech, Channel i’s Program Head Harun Or Rashid said that such an initiative is very timely in developing the talent and linguistic skills of children. Channel i will continue to be by his side in educational and creative events in the future.
Chairman of Shaheen Education Family Muhammad Machudul Amin Shaheen said, “Our goal is to strengthen the foundation of English language for students from the primary level and make English education enjoyable, effective and of international standard. ‘Spelling Star’ is not just a competition; it is a national educational platform for the children of Bangladesh. On this stage, a student will get the opportunity to express his talent, linguistic skills and confidence. At the same time, a parent will also get the opportunity to discover his child's potential in a new way. We believe that the linguistic skills and confidence of today's children will be one of the foundations for building a skilled and world-class Bangladesh in the future.
Special guests were Professor Dr. Mohammad Raihan M. Sharif, Chairman of the English Department of Jahangirnagar University, and Muhammad Anwar Hossain Aslam, Executive Director of Shaheen Education Family. Also present at the event were HIPPO International English Language Olympiad 2026 Asia Champion Samina Noor Taj, popular educational content creators Fatiha Ayat and Sijda, university teachers, English language experts, teachers of various educational institutions, students, parents and media personalities.
The official logo of 'Shaheen Education Family–Channel i Spelling Star 2026' was unveiled, the official jingle was displayed, the software-based test method, the registration process and the various stages of the competition were presented.
The organizers said that participation in this competition is completely free for students of 4th and 5th grade of Bangla medium schools and madrasas in the country. Registration will continue until August 14, 2026. After registration, there will be a tutorial and multiple demo tests for the participating students, so that they can familiarize themselves with the software-based tests in advance and participate in the tests with confidence.
The champion of the competition will receive 3 lakh taka, the first runner-up 2 lakh taka and the second runner-up 1 lakh taka. In addition, the fourth and fifth place holders will receive 50 thousand taka each and the top 10 contestants will each receive a laptop.
The organizers also said that the primary selection will be held through designated test centers in different regions of the country. Later, a series of reality shows will be broadcast on Channel i with 100 selected students after the sectional phase. In addition, a special report will be published in the daily Jugantar on the successes, dreams and future plans of the selected students.
The speakers expressed the hope that ‘Shaheen Education Family–Channel i Spelling Star 2026’ will not be limited to just a competition; Rather, it will create new impetus in the English language education of the country's children, help future generations move forward with more confidence in the international arena, and will be established as an effective national educational platform.Source: jugantor
