Navy rescues 12 fishermen in Bay of Bengal
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Navy sailors have rescued 12 fishermen stranded in the Bay of Bengal onboard their dysfunctional fishing trawler. According to an ISPR statement on Sunday, during its routine patrol, navy warship BNS Bishkhali RADAR detected the dysfunctional trawler, FB Mayer Doa, some 50 nautical miles or 90 kilometres off the southwestern coastlines and approached for its rescue. The fishermen said they were at sea for the past two days with dwindling food and drinking water as their trawler’s engine went out of order. “The navy personnel instantly rescued the fishermen and provided food, water and primary medical care,” read the ISPR statement.
The trawler was floating near the international maritime boundary’s Western IMBL, 17 nautical miles off the Mongla fairway buoy, which itself was approximately 62 kilometres north of the coastline. The warship towed the fishing boat to the shoreline. This article was originally published on Daily Sun. [Bangla Press is a global platform for free thought.
