NCC unable to present draft order on July Charter implementation: NCP
Bangla Press Desk: The National Citizen Party (NCP) has claimed that the National Consensus Commission has expressed its inability to present the draft order regarding the implementation of the July Charter.
NCP Member-Secretary Akhtar Hossain disclosed this information on Saturday after a meeting with the Commission.
Akhtar Hossain said the Commission had informed them that it was preparing an order to implement the July Charter — a move the NCP viewed as a positive step forward.
“However,” he added, “the Commission has said they are not yet in a position to present the contents of the draft to us, which leaves us unable to remain fully optimistic.”
He praised the Commission’s sincerity in preparing the implementation order but warned that it must not turn into a mere symbolic or politically influenced document like the July Declaration.
“We urged the Commission to ensure that the order is not presented in a way that undermines the spirit of genuine implementation,” he said.
Akhtar further said that the NCP expects the Commission to share the draft order with them before finalisation.
“Only after being fully assured of its legal and moral soundness will we move toward signing the July Charter,” he noted, emphasising that the NCP has been actively engaged in the reform discussions to keep them within Bangladesh’s mainstream political discourse.
He also reiterated that the NCP has long been advocating for the July Charter to gain a concrete legal foundation.
“We will continue our efforts until the July Charter attains full legal legitimacy,” he affirmed.
The NCP member-secretary concluded by stressing that the draft order must not be one-sided or politically motivated.
“It should not turn into a repetition of the July Declaration or become an act of deception to the nation,” he cautioned.
