Newly elected MP vows not to take oath unless accepted by BNP
Bangla Press Desk: Independent lawmaker-elect from Chandpur-4 MA Hannan on Saturday said he would not take oath as a Member of Parliament until his preferred political party BNP formally accepts him.
“I will not take the oath as an MP unless my beloved political party BNP officially accepts me,” Hannan said, adding that his lifelong commitment to the party’s ideology and politics would remain unwavering.
He made the remarks while addressing a press conference at the Faridganj Press Club on Saturday afternoon.
Hannan said he has been involved in BNP politics since his student life, inspired by the ideology of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, and would continue to follow that path in the future.
He alleged that a “vested quarter” had previously played a role in cancelling his party nomination and that similar conspiracies were attempted again this time. However, he said, he secured victory as the people’s candidate with united support from voters in Faridganj and grassroots leaders.
“I did not contest the election against any political party. I contested against a disconnected clique,” he said.
Hannan also alleged that the defeated side had engaged in post-election violence and propaganda, urging the administration to take strict action to stop such activities. He dismissed allegations of electoral irregularities as “baseless”.
Among those present at the press conference were Press Club President Mamunur Rashid Pathan, General Secretary Nurul Islam Farhad, BNP leader Safiul Alam Bashar Mukul Patwari, former Faridganj municipal mayor and former joint convener of upazila BNP Manzil Hossain, and leaders and activists from different levels.
