Over 35 shanties gutted in Rohingya camp fire in Teknaf

Bangla Press Desk:   Over 35 shanties were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at two Rohingya camps in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday night.

No casualties were reported in the incident.

The blaze originated around 10:30pm at camps No. 24 and 25 in the Leda area of Hnila union under Teknaf upazila.

Three units of the Fire Service, assisted by locals, brought the blaze under control after nearly two hours of firefighting, said Additional DIG Muhammad Kausar Sikder, Commanding Officer of the 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBN) deployed at the Teknaf Rohingya camps.

"At least 35 Rohingya houses and structures were completely destroyed. The cause of the fire could not be determined immediately," he added.

Earlier, separate fire incidents were reported on the night of 25 December and early 26 December at two camps in Ukhiya, where five shelters and a healthcare facility were damaged.
