Passengers must get off bus before ferry boarding
Bangla Press Desk: Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has issued a strict directive requiring all passengers to get off buses before the vehicles are allowed to board ferries, in a move aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring passenger safety.
The minister announced the decision on Sunday after a high-level meeting at the Secretariat focused on reducing road accidents and improving overall transport safety.“From now on, buses must be completely empty before being taken onto ferries. Under no circumstances will buses carrying passengers be permitted,” he said.
As part of enhanced safety measures, the minister also made it mandatory to install railings on ferries. He noted that accidents often occur during vehicle boarding and unloading or due to strong river waves, and proper safety barriers could significantly reduce such risks.
“We are responsible for protecting people’s lives. Ferry accidents involving passenger-filled buses often result in heavy casualties. This step is essential to prevent such tragedies,” he added.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from relevant ministries and members of law enforcement agencies. Authorities believe that the new directive will significantly strengthen safety measures at ferry terminals across the country.
