PMO appoints KU Prof Abdul Awal as SDG Chief Coordinator
Bangla Press Desk: Professor Dr SM Abdul Awal of Khulna University has been appointed as the Chief Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Prime Minister’s Office with the status of a secretary.
The information was announced in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Md Golam Rabbani of the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday (15 March).According to the notification, Abdul Awal has been appointed on a contractual basis as the Chief Coordinator for SDGs at the Prime Minister’s Office. He must leave any other professional, business, or institutional positions before joining the post.
The appointment will remain effective during the tenure of the Prime Minister or until further decision by the government.
The notification also said that he will receive the rank and facilities of a government secretary.
Earlier, after the July mass uprising, he had been serving as the sixth Vice-Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology.
Abdul Awal completed his bachelor’s degree in 2004 from the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline of Khulna University. He received his master’s degree in Molecular Life Sciences in 2009 from KU Leuven in Belgium. Later, he earned his PhD in 2015 from University of Cambridge, Churchill College, in the United Kingdom.
