Prime accused in IU teacher murder case arrested
Bangla Press Desk : Police have arrested Fazlur Rahman, the main accused in the murder case of Asma Sadia Runa, chairman of the Department of Social Welfare and an assistant professor at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia.
Fazlur is now under police custody while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kushtia General Hospital.Abdullah Al Mamun, investigating officer of the case and a sub-inspector of Islamic University Police Station, confirmed the matter on Friday evening.
He said Fazlur Rahman had been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries and is being kept under police guard while undergoing treatment.
According to police sources, the accused submitted a written confession to police admitting his involvement in the murder while receiving treatment in the ICU.
Doctors said his physical condition is currently stable and he is out of danger.
Abdullah Al Mamun said the investigation had already begun following the murder case filed earlier, and police are also working to arrest the other accused named in the case.
“As two university teachers have been named as suspects, the matter will be investigated thoroughly and legal action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
Earlier on Thursday morning, the victim’s husband, Imtiaz Sultan, filed a murder case with Islamic University Police Station.
The case names four people, including university employee Fazlur Rahman, as accused. Filed under Sections 302 and 109 of the Penal Code, other accused are Deputy Registrar Bishwajit Kumar Biswas, and assistant professors of the Social Welfare Department Shyam Sundar Sarkar and Habibur Rahman.Source: daily Sun
