Public transport to get sufficient fuel from 15 March, says minister
Bangla Press Desk: Shaikh Rabiul Alam, Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping, said the government will ensure sufficient fuel for public transport from 15 March.
Speaking after visiting Kamalapur Railway Station on Friday, the first day of Eid train travel, the minister assured commuters that fuel shortages would not lead to fare increases or transport disruptions.Discussing the challenges of Eid travel, Shaikh Rabiul Alam noted that about 12.5 million to 15 million people leave Dhaka within just two to three days, a scale of movement rarely seen in other cities worldwide. Despite the short timeframe, the government is making every effort to manage the flow smoothly.
To avoid major schedule disruptions, the ministry needs at least 85 to 87 locomotives. Currently, 78 locomotives are in operation, and the minister said adding a few more over the next two days will help normalise train services.Source: daily Sun
