Road blocked in Azimpur demanding principal's resignation
BanglaPress Desk: Students of the capital’s Government College of Applied Human Science (formerly the College of Home Economics) are staging a protest, blocking both sides of Azimpur Road to demand the resignation of their principal. They have been maintaining this sit-in since 10:00 AM on Friday (November 6).
The students reported that, in an effort to free the principal, Dr. Meherunnesa—who had been confined to her office—police carried out a lathi-charge (baton charge) against them during the night. Several students were left seriously injured and have since been admitted to the hospital.
Prior to this, the students had kept Dr. Meherunnesa confined within her office starting Thursday morning. She was eventually escorted out by the police later that night. The students’ grievances stem from allegations of administrative irregularities, arbitrary decision-making, and threats to cancel residential hall seats. Furthermore, the students were angered by a demand for a 12,600-taka fine, purportedly for the auditorium’s electricity bill.
