RUCSU polls tomorrow

Bangla Press Desk: Campaigning for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), Hall Union, and Senate student representative elections officially ended on Tuesday, with hopes high for a peaceful and participatory vote scheduled for tomorrow.

The campus took on a festive atmosphere throughout the day as candidates moved from door to door to connect with voters, share their manifestos, and exchange greetings. Leaflets and handbills were distributed, while candidates engaged directly with students across academic departments and residential halls.

Key locations such as Amtala, Transport Market, Buddhijibi Chattar, Shaheed Minar, the Faculties of Fine Arts and Agriculture, Paschim Para, and several academic buildings witnessed vibrant campaign activities.

Speaking near the Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Academic Building, Tasin Khan, the first female candidate for the Vice President (VP) post in RUCSU’s history, said, “Since today is the last day of campaigning, we are trying our best to reach everyone. However, as an independent candidate, it’s difficult to manage everything alone — that’s a big challenge for us.”

A total of 247 candidates are contesting for 23 posts in the RUCSU election — including 18 for VP, 13 for GS, and 16 for AGS. Eleven panels have been officially announced, including those backed by Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir.

Meanwhile, 58 candidates are contesting for five student representative seats in the University Senate, and 597 candidates are running for 15 positions across 17 residential halls.

The combined electorate for the RUCSU and Senate elections stands at 28,901 students, including 11,305 female and 17,596 male voters.

As per the revised schedule, polling will be held from 9am to 4pm tomorrow, and results are expected to be announced the same day after the vote count.
