‘Runs will come if I stay at the wicket’, says Litton on T20I form
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh T20 captain Litton Das has addressed his recent lean patch in 20-over internationals, insisting that his ability to spend time at the crease during recent series is a positive sign that a breakthrough is imminent.
While Litton’s personal scores in the last two international assignments remained modest, the skipper noted that he is prioritising consistency and a clear mindset over the noise of recent statistics.“In the last two series, even though I couldn’t get big runs, I was still able to stay at the wicket for a while,” Litton said during a pre-match press conference on Sunday.
“This is a good thing. Since the format is different, if you stay at the wicket, runs will come.”
Litton, who has recorded only one half-century in his last 24 T20I innings, acknowledged that his aggressive role at the top of the order naturally carries a higher risk of failure.
He maintained that he would not curb his attacking instincts despite the pressure of leadership or personal form.
"You have to maintain that consistency. At the same time, you have to have an attacking mindset, and when you do, once or twice you may fail, so you have to accept it in T20s," he explained. "You will sometimes succeed, sometimes fail."
The 28-year-old enters the New Zealand series with some momentum from the preceding One Day International series, where he struck a fluent 76 (91) on Thursday and a 46 earlier in the week. However, the captain is aware that T20I demands a different gear.
"Since the format is different, you have to accept that failure can happen when playing attacking cricket," Litton added.
"My focus is to try and maintain that attacking approach while staying at the wicket as long as possible."
