Security beefed up ahead of verdict in Hasina plot scam case

Bangla Press Desk:    Law enforcement agencies have taken heightened security measures in the capital ahead of today's verdict in a case against 17 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and niece Tulip Siddique, over irregularities in the allocation of a 10-katha plot in the RAJUK Purbachal New Town Project.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed in Dhaka's lower court area, where the Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 is scheduled to pronounce the judgment around 11 am.

Police presence has also been strengthened in and around the court premises.

"In addition to the regular security arrangements, two platoons of Public Order Management (POM) police are on duty," Deputy Commissioner of the Prosecution Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Miah Mohammad Ashis Bin Hasan told BSS.

He added that police patrols and surveillance have been intensified at key points within the court area and in the surrounding neighbourhoods. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) patrols have also been intensified in and around the court area.

Meanwhile, police were seen setting up checkpoints at various locations across the capital, stopping people and vehicles for suspicion-based checks.
