Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has significantly reduced gold prices in the domestic market. The price for the highest quality gold has been lowered by Tk 2,158 per *bhori* (11.664 grams), setting the new rate at Tk 2,31,880.
This decision was reached unanimously during a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Friday morning (September 11). The new rates came into effect at 10:00 AM today.
BAJUS stated that the new prices were determined after considering the overall situation and the drop in the price of pure gold (*tejabi* gold).
Under the new pricing, the rate for 22-carat gold is set at Tk 2,31,880 per *bhori*. Additionally, the price for 21-carat gold is Tk 2,21,441, 18-carat gold is Tk 1,90,123, and gold of the traditional method is Tk 1,55,306 per *bhori*.
BAJUS had last adjusted gold prices on September 9. At that time, the price for 22-carat gold was set at Tk 2,34,038 per *bhori*; 21-carat gold at Tk 2,23,541; 18-carat gold at Tk 1,91,931; and traditional method gold at Tk 1,56,822 per *bhori*.
In its notification, BAJUS stated that making charges would apply based on the jewelry design. Since VAT is already included in the selling price, it cannot be collected separately from customers.
Furthermore, for the exchange of jewelry, 12 percent of the value must be deducted (excluding making charges and stones), and for purchases, 18 percent must be deducted. VAT cannot be deducted separately in cases of exchange or purchase.
BAJUS also announced that these new selling prices will remain effective at all jewelry establishments across the country until further notice.
