Shibir-Backed panel’s Zahid wins RUCSU VP race
Bangla Press Desk: In the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU), Hall Union and Senate student representative elections, Mostakur Rahman Zahid, the vice president (VP) candidate from the Shibir-backed Combined Students’ Alliance panel, has been unofficially declared elected with 12,687 votes.
His nearest rival, Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD)-supported Unified New Generation panel, secured 3,397 votes.
Meanwhile, in the general secretary (GS) race, Salahuddin Ammar of the Anti-Dominance Alliance panel won by a wide margin, securing 11,497 votes.
His closest contender, Fazle Rabbi Md Fahim Reza from the Shibir-backed panel, received 5,727 votes.
Ammar is a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, while Fahim Reza also previously served as a coordinator.
In the assistant general secretary (AGS) contest, SM Salman Sabbir, the Shibir-backed candidate, was elected with 6,975 votes, defeating Jahin Biswas Esha from the JCD-supported panel, who received 5,951 votes.
The results were announced around 8am Friday by Prof Setaur Rahman, the chief returning officer. However, the final official declaration is yet to be made.
