Sufficient fuel stock in country: Govt
Bangla Press Desk: In response to recent public concerns over fuel supply, the government has clearly stated that the country has sufficient fuel reserves and there is no shortage of fuel.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources shared the information in a press release on Monday.Recently, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood reassured the nation, saying, “There are adequate reserves of all types of fuel, including diesel, petrol, and octane; there is no reason for the public to be alarmed.”
He added that the government is ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply across the country, even if it has to purchase fuel from the spot market at higher prices, while new ships carrying fuel continue to arrive at the ports.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation Chairman Md Rezanur Rahman said the country currently has 1.36 lakh tonnes of refined fuel in reserve. In addition, around 1 lakh tonnes of crude oil are stored at the Eastern Refinery in Chattogram.
According to the authorities’ calculations, the current fuel reserves are sufficient to meet normal demand for the next 20-22 days without any new supply, he said.
As new ships carrying fuel continue to arrive regularly, these reserves and the continuity of supply will remain fully intact, Rezanur said.
Under the circumstances, people of the country have been urged to remain vigilant, read the release.
They have been requested not to pay attention to any misleading information, baseless rumours, or false reports circulating on social media or elsewhere. Source: daily Sun
