Tarique expresses concern over timely national election

Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed concern over whether the upcoming national election will be held on schedule.

Speaking virtually from London on Sunday night during an event at Lakeshore Hotel in Dhaka, Tarique said that growing uncertainty among the public has raised questions about the timely conduct of the polls.

“There are now questions among the people about whether the election will take place on time,” Tarique said, adding, “We must remain alert to ensure that the current situation does not lead to unconditional surrender to any evil force. Conflict, propaganda, and conspiracies are already being orchestrated to prevent the BNP’s victory in the upcoming election.”

He further said that failing to distinguish between “strategy and trickery” could create a situation tantamount to surrendering to anti-democratic forces.

Tarique also revealed that the BNP would soon finalise its list of candidates for all 300 constituencies, urging party leaders and supporters to accept the nominees announced by the central committee.

“In the upcoming election, everyone must set aside personal rivalries and support the party’s chosen candidate,” he said. “In the interest of the nation and its people, we must stand united behind whoever receives the party’s nomination.” This article was originally published on the Daily Sun.
