Three dead, nine hurt as microbus slams into road divider in Bogura
Bangla Press Desk: Three people have been killed after a passenger microbus lost control and crashed into a road divider in Sherpur, Bogura.
At least nine others were injured in the incident. They were rescued and admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.The accident occurred around 7:30am on Wednesday at a place called Chhonka in Bhabanipur Union along the Dhaka–Bogura highway in the upazila.
The deceased have been identified as Shiuli Begum (48), Tayeba Khatun (35), and the microbus driver Rintu (47).
The injured are Fatema (10), Shahidul (40), Toushib (30), Tasmia (20), Helena (60), Tarikul (36), Fatema (2), Arham (7), and Hamim (30).Hospital sources said that several of the injured are in critical condition.
According to police and local sources, the microbus was traveling from Dhaka to Kaunia in Rangpur. When it reached the Chhonka area around 7:30am, the gas cylinder of the speeding microbus exploded.
As a result, the vehicle lost control and crashed violently into the road divider. One person died on the spot. Later, two more people died on the way to the hospital and while undergoing treatment.
The bodies of the deceased are currently kept in the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Inspector Md. Rais Uddin, in charge of the Sherpur Highway Police Camp, said that police and fire service personnel rushed to the scene after receiving news of the accident and rescued the victims. So far, three deaths have been confirmed, and efforts are underway to identify them. Traffic movement on the highway is currently normal.
Police have seized the accident-hit microbus, and legal action is being processed.
