Three sent to jail over snatching of militants from court premises
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent three individuals to jail in connection with the snatching of two death-sentenced Ansar al-Islam militants from the court premises.
The individuals sent to jail are Abdus Sabur alias Raju, Khairul Islam alias Jamil, and Arafat Rahman. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Albiruni Mir passed the order after a hearing.
According to court sources, the three accused are already in jail in connection with another case. A hearing to show their arrest was scheduled for 3 December. The court fixed Tuesday as the hearing date in the presence of the accused.
According to the case documents, two death-row convicts of Ansar al-Islam, Moinul Hasan Shamim alias Imran and Abu Siddique Sohel alias Shahab, were snatched from the Dhaka court premises by the terrorist group on 20 November 2022.
At the time, an attempt was also made to snatch two other accused, Arafat and Sabur, but police arrested them at the scene. A case was filed at Kotwali Police Station in the capital, naming 20 people as accused.
