Tk4cr Apartment of Former Senior Secretary’s Wife to Be Seized by Court Order

Bangla Press Desk:   A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the seizure of a flat worth Tk4.20 crore belonging to Syeda Afroza Begum, former additional secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and wife of former Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohibul Haque.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Tahsin Munabil Haque.According to the petition, investigations are underway against Mohibul Haque over bribery, corruption and irregularities, including embezzlement of large sums from development projects, money laundering abroad, and acquiring assets beyond known sources of income in his and his family members’ names.

During the inquiry, it was revealed that Syeda Afroza Begum owns a 2,700-square-foot flat (Flat No. 5/A) in the Memory By Momen building, constructed on Plot No. 190, Road No. 2, in the DOHS area of Mohakhali, Dhaka. 

She is allegedly trying to transfer or dispose of the property, which may hamper the inquiry. Therefore, the court ordered the attachment of the immovable property acquired in her name in the interest of a fair investigation.Source: daily Sun
