Trial against Hasina in Purbachal plot scam to begin soon
  Bangla Press Desk:   The trial against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 22 others is set to begin soon in six graft cases over the alleged embezzlement of government plots in the Purbachal New Town Project. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib on Sunday ordered the transfer of the cases to a Special Judge Court for trial. Confirming the development, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam said that official gazette notifications have already been published, declaring the accused as absconders, and the cases are now ready for trial. Other Hasina family members named in the cases include her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s children: Tulip Rizwana Siddiq (a British MP), Azmira Siddiq Rupu, and Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby.
The remaining 16 accused include government and Rajuk officials: Saiful Islam Sarkar, Purabi Goldar, Kazi Wasi Uddin, Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Anisur Rahman Mia, Md Khurshid Alam, Kabir Al Asad, Tanmoy Das, Md Nasir Uddin, Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury (retd), Md Hafizur Rahman, Md Habibur Rahman, Sheikh Shahinul Islam, Md Nurul Islam, Mohammad Salahuddin, and Sharif Ahmed. The ACC filed six separate cases in January 2025, alleging abuse of power and favouritism in the allocation of government plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
