Two held with 10 gold bars in Meherpur
Bangla Press Desk: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 10 gold bars weighing 1.166 kg and arrested two individuals from the Bajitpur border area of the sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The estimated market value of the seized gold is around Tk2.10 crore.
The detainees are Mizanur Rahman, 26, son of Mirazul Sheikh of Shahapur village under Tehatta thana in India's Nadia district and Abbas Ali, 43, son of late Awal Hossain of Bhuripota village in Meherpur Sadar upazila.
Lieutenant Colonel M Nazmul Hasan, commander of the BGB Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), said a patrol team led by Havildar Shahjahan Siraj spotted two suspicious individuals near pillar No. 117/6 close to the Bajitpur border area. When the suspects attempted to flee, the patrol team chased and detained them, recovering the 10 gold bars from their possession.
A case has been filed against the two at Meherpur Sadar Police Station.
