Two killed in lightning strikes in Faridpur
Bangla Press Desk: A local BNP leader and a farmer were killed in separate lightning strikes in Faridpur on Friday.
The deceased were Md Lutfar Rahman, 47, former general secretary of Ward-2 unit BNP of Arpara union in Madhukhali upazila, and Azahar Sheikh, 40.The first incident occurred around 1:30pm at Madhya Arpara village in Arpara union.
Locals said Lutfar was struck by lightning near his home while working in a field.
He sustained severe burns on his head and other parts of his body and died en route to the Upazila Health Complex, later confirmed at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Arpara Union Parishad Chairman Md Badruzzaman Babu confirmed the incident.
Fakir Md Taizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madhukhali Police Station, said they received verbal reports of the death.
The second fatality occurred around noon in the Dangi area under Kotwali Police Station.
Azahar was struck by lightning while fetching a cow in an open field near his home.
He died on the spot, according to local sources and police.
