Used Car Traders Call for Reversal of EV Import Restrictions
Bangla Press Desk: Used car dealers have demanded withdrawal of a government directive banning import of reconditioned electric vehicles (EVs), terming the decision as “discriminatory.”
To press home their demand, Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) held a human chain in the capital on Saturday, said a press release. In the press release, BARVIDA said the brand new electric vehicles are outside the purchasing power of middle-class and lower middle-class people. As a result, if reconditioned EVs can be imported, ordinary buyers and professionals adding value to the economy will be able to own these cars.BARVIDA added that the country is going through such a phase where the environment has to be protected, energy has to be saved, foreign currency has to preserved and investment needs to be increased.
Through the press release, BARVIDA said they have sent their proposals to the president and will have to resort to tougher programmes if the government does not withdraw the ban on the import of reconditioned EVs.
