The government could extend the exemption of VAT on metro rail tickets by six months to June next year, according to NBR sources.
The exemption was set to expire on 31 December, but officials are looking to extend it in public interest, sources told reporters.
A 15% VAT was supposed to be imposed on ticket prices since the partial launch of metro services in December 2022. The VAT has been deferred repeatedly since then to avoid pressures on passengers and retain them.
