We are always open to receiving students’ questions: DUCSU VP Shadik
Bangla Press Desk:   Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Vice President-elect Abu Shadik Kayem has pledged to provide unwavering service to students, stressing that accountability will remain the cornerstone of the new leadership. “Students can ask questions anytime to hold us accountable. Our job is to work,” said Shadik while paying tribute to the martyrs at the Rayerbazar graveyard on Thursday morning. He was accompanied by General Secretary (GS) SM Farhad and other panel members of the United Students’ Alliance, which recently won the DUCSU polls. The newly elected leaders officially launched their activities by visiting the graves of the July Uprising martyrs as well as the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
Expressing hope for a transformed campus, Shadik said, “We hope that we will be able to decorate the campus according to the aspirations of the July martyrs during our stipulated time. Our goal is to build a dream campus.” He described the July martyrs—two thousand students who sacrificed their lives for democratic change—as “our beacon of inspiration.” “They will ask questions, we will work,” Shadik reiterated, underscoring the importance of maintaining a framework of responsibility between students and their elected representatives. The winning panel, he added, aims to set “a perfect example of a discrimination-free Bangladesh,” beginning from Dhaka University.
Confirming the start of formal responsibilities, GS Farhad said, “The work of the elected representatives will begin immediately after taking the formal oath.” The panel also pledged round-the-clock communication with and support to the families of the July martyrs. “The families of the July martyrs are our families,” Shadik affirmed, outlining plans for direct contact and assistance. The Rayerbazar site holds more than a hundred unmarked graves of July martyrs, symbolizing the heavy toll of the revolution. The new leadership vowed to preserve their legacy and continue commemorating their sacrifice while working to build a “beautiful campus.” Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Mohiuddin Khan and senior panel members were also present at the emotional event, highlighting the united leadership’s commitment to both student administration and the preservation of revolutionary heritage.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
