Will do whatever necessary to hold peaceful, impartial polls: CA tells BNP

Bangla Press Desk: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday assured the BNP leaders that they will do whatever is necessary to make the election ‘peaceful and impartial’ as the country is heading towards the next national election, scheduled for February next.

“Our responsibility is to remain neutral. The election is a grand event. We will select the person who is capable of maintaining peace and order here. It will be under my supervision. We will do whatever is necessary to make the election peaceful and impartial,” he said.

The Chief Adviser told the BNP leaders that as the Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Public Administration, all the reshuffles in the administration before the elections will be under his direct supervision.

In the appointment of the DCs, he said, officials will be selected based on their qualifications and assigned to appropriate positions before the elections.

The BNP leaders met the Chief Adviser at the state guest house Jamuna on Tuesday evening and discussed the preparations for the national election.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed were present at the meeting.

Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul and Industries Adviser Adidur Rahman were also present.

In the meeting, the BNP leaders also presented some observations to the Chief Adviser on the recruitment and transfer process of the police.

BNP congratulated the government for involving political leaders in the UN General Assembly and for successfully signing the ‘July National Charter 2025’.

The BNP leaders expressed deep concern over the recent series of fires that have broken out in various establishments across the country.

They also called for an investigation into whether these incidents were sabotage or not, said the Chief Adviser’s press wing.

The BNP leaders called for any controversial officials, especially those who were in election duties during the autocratic Awami League regime, to be prevented from performing their duties in the upcoming elections.

They also urged the Chief Adviser to maintain impartiality in the reshuffle in the administration before the elections.

As part of the ongoing political dialogue, a delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami delegation will meet the Chief Adviser on Wednesday.
