12 Bangladeshis received US President’s ‘Volunteer Service’ award in Virginia

Noman Ibne Sabit: Twelve Bangladeshis received the US President’s ‘Volunteer Service’ award organized by the Udyon Foundation in the US state of Virginia. The President’s Volunteer Service Award ceremony was recently held in the auditorium of the Arlington Central Library in Virginia, organized by the Udyon Foundation, a social organization in the Washington metro area. The main purpose of the event was to honor dedicated social workers in the Greater Washington Metro area and individuals who have contributed to the media at the national level for their outstanding contributions.This was a great initiative on the part of Udayan.

At the beginning of the program, Anthony Pius Gomez welcomed the guests and greeted them on behalf of Udyon. After that, Anika Rahman invited the mainstream leaders to the stage. Chief guests at the event were Fairfax County Chair Jeffrey Mack, special guests were Sezmore Heiser, vice-chair of the Fairfax County School Board, and Duita Soharzono, former chair of the Democratic Asian Americans of Virginia. After that, Udyon’s founder Redwan Chowdhury gave a detailed account of Udyon and Udyon’s social service activities.
Among those honored by Udyon are Voice of America’s Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Masuma Khatun, Sarkar Kabiruddin, Rokeya Haider and Anis Ahmed.

Also honored are Waheed Hosseini, Sharmin Ahmed, Shamim Chowdhury, Anthony Pius Gomez, Rosemary Mitu Riberu, Shampa Banik and Anika Rahman for their outstanding contributions to the social sector. Others who were nominated for the honor, but could not attend the ceremony due to being out of the country or city, are- Abu Solaiman, Dr. Maryam Parveen, Suvi Mehdi, family of late Mukit Hossain, Dr. Azizul Quader, Shafiq Chowdhury, Zahirul Quader and Maitreyi Naik.

All those who have been awarded this honor are outstanding personalities of the society, their contribution to the country is immense and giving this honor to them through a ceremony organized by Udayan was an exceptional initiative of Udayan. Udyon has expressed his determination to continue such activities in the future as well. Udyon urges everyone to play their role for the betterment of the society. Then the program was concluded by thanking everyone. Anthony Pius Gomez and Anika Rahman were present on the occasion.
