Sheikh Kamal’s birth anniversary celebration at BD Embassy in Washington DC

Staff Reporter: Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC on Saturday (August 5) observed the 74th birth anniversary of valiant Freedom Fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, recalling his outstanding contributions to the fields of sports and culture alongside rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh.
The Embassy organised different programs at the Bangabandhu Auditorium in the morning to observe the birth anniversary of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, also the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The programs commenced with the placing of floral wreaths by Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran at the bust of the Father of the Nation and the portrait of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal. Officials and employees of the Mission were present on the occasion.
Later, the messages issued by Hon’ble President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out by Minister (Consular) Mohammad Habibur Rahman and Minister (Political) Md Rashedujjaman.
Afterward, a short documentary on the life and works of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal was screened, which was followed by a discussion session.
Taking part in the discussion, Ambassador Muhammad Imran paid profound homage to Shaheed Sheikh Kamal and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
The Ambassador recalled with deep respect Shaheed Sheikh Kamal’s great contributions to the Liberation War, rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh and the development of sports and culture after independence.
He said Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, who possessed multidimensional talents, was the pioneer of the country’s modern sports and a role model for the youth folk. After the great Liberation War, Sheikh Kamal dedicated himself to building “Sonar Bangla” envisaged by Bangabandhu, as well as development of sports, culture and other fields.
Ambassador Imran hoped that the country’s young generation would take sports and cultural arenas to the highest peak of success by following the ideology of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal.
Minister (Press) AZM Sajjad Hossain also took part in the discussion and said Shaheed Sheikh Kamal remains immortal among the hearts of the people, especially sports fans, for establishing Abahani Krira Chakra, the country’s leading sports club.
After the discussion, a special prayer was offered, seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib, and others martyred on the fateful night of 15 August 1975.
Counsellor and Head of Chancery Md Moniruzzaman conducted the programs.
