Noman Sabit: Another road in the United States has been named Bangladesh Avenue in the month of Victory. Bangladeshi City Mayor Mahbubul Alam Tayab of Milbourne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania unveiled the road name plaque on Sunday (December 3) local time. At that time, 5 Bangladeshi councilmen of Millborne City were present with a large number of expatriates.

The intersection of Market Street and Sellers Avenue (now known as Sellers Avenue) in the Bangladeshi-dominated borough of Milbourne, Pennsylvania, is renamed Bangladesh Avenue.
In the ceremony, which started with the performance of the national anthems of Bangladesh and the United States led by Pennsylvania expatriate artiste Joly Das, Mayor Mahbubul Alam expressed his deep gratitude to all the councilmen of the city for paving the way for the inauguration of ‘Bangladesh Avenue’ in the month of victory in the multinational society. He hopes that the support of the local people will continue in the days to come. At that time, as a representative of the Governor of the State of Pennsylvania, the State Policy and Planning Secretary Akbar Hossain (he is also a Bangladeshi American) handed over a special memorial to Mayor Tayab from the Governor.He said that we can do more in this multi-ethnic society if we can be united by naming a street. The journey started with the naming of this road.
State Senator Tim Kearney, Upper Derby City Mayor (elect) Edward Brownon, State Representative Gina Kari and others gave greetings at the event. At this time, heroic freedom fighter Abu Amin Rahman, heroic freedom fighter Dr.Ziauddin Ahmed and brave freedom fighter Abu Taher, including invited guests and freedom fighters from other states to the opening stage and honored in a grand manner. It should be noted that the naming of roads after Bangladesh in the United States is increasing day by day. One by one roads in different regions are being named ‘Little Bangladesh’ and Bangladesh Boulevard. So far five areas have been named as ‘Bangladesh’.
This year on Independence Day, a street in Jackson Heights, New York, USA was named ‘Bangladesh Street’. Seventy-third Street in Jackson Heights is home to many Bangladeshi restaurants, pharmacies, and newspaper offices.
The new name of the road was given as ‘Bangladesh Street’ on the great independence day of Bangladesh (March 26).
Earlier on March 10, the New York City Council named a road called ‘Little Bangladesh Way’ in Ozone Park in New York, which is dominated by Bangladeshis. On that day at noon, the road was unveiled and formally inaugurated.

On February 21 last year, Little Bangladesh Avenue from Hillside Avenue to Homelon Avenue in Jamaica area was named. The new renaming road in Jamaica was officially inaugurated on International Mother Language Day on February 21.
Last year (2022), the Bangladeshi-dominated Church-McDonald intersection in Brooklyn was renamed Little Bangladesh.
With this, the number of Little Bangladesh stands at three in the United States and several roads are named Bangladesh Avenue and Boulevard.
In 2010, an area located between Third Street and Alexandria Avenue in Los Angeles, California, United States was recognized as ‘Little Bangladesh’ by the Los Angeles city authorities. It is the heartland of people of Bangladeshi origin living in the city.
In 2019, the name of the Union Avenue road in Paterson City, New Jersey, USA was changed to ‘Bangladesh Boulevard’. On June 22, 2019, the road was officially named Bangladesh Boulevard.
