Staff Reporter: Mohammad Nazmul Huda, Consul General of Bangladesh Consulate General in New York expressed optimism about issuing a national identity card from Bangladesh Consulate General in New York in the near future. He said that the government has taken various initiatives to provide national identity cards to expatriates. Therefore, national identity cards will be issued from Bangladesh Consulate General in phases in future. He also expressed his promise to inform the government of expatriates’ demand for opening bank branches in New York. He said these things in an exchange meeting with Bangladeshi journalists/ newsmen in New York. Local time on Wednesday (December 6), the exchange meeting was attended by the New York journalists/ newsmen and staff of the Consulate General.

As the newly appointed Consul General, he informed everyone about his goals, plans and initiatives. He expressed the sincerity and relentless efforts of the Consulate General in continuously improving the service quality of the Consulate. He then discussed the significant role of media personalities including print, online and electronic media journalists in the current world context and reality, in shaping society and nation.
Consul General Mohammad Nazmul Huda described the remarkable development achieved in the socio-economic field of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and called on everyone to play their part in continuing this trend. He added, with everyone’s efforts, under the leadership of the current government, Bangladesh has been promoted from a least developed country to a developing country which will be fully recognized in 2026.
He highlighted the position of Bangladesh in various economic indicators from 2008-09 to the present time and highlighted the growing and developing economic capacity of Bangladesh. He drew the attention of media personalities to these issues and urged them to bring these issues before the people, in the court of the world. The Consul General compared the media workers present at the function to a mirror for fulfilling their responsible role and said that they do the ultimate good of the society and the state by revealing mistakes.
The Consul General called the main goals of his New York mission to be the brightening of the country’s image in the host country, economic diplomacy, people-friendly diplomacy. He sought the cooperation of the journalists of all print, online and electronic media in the continuous efforts of the Consulate General to protect the links of expatriate Bangladeshis with Bangladesh, to promote and spread the various initiatives of the government to protect the interests of expatriate Bangladeshis. At this time, he requested the guests to present various issues including voting by postal ballot, universal pension scheme and other issues to the expatriate Bangladeshis.
The journalists present strongly demanded the relocation of the Bangladesh Consulate General to a spacious, modern building to protect the image of Bangladesh in New York. They also requested the Consul General to open a full-fledged branch of Sonali Bank or any state-owned bank of Bangladesh in New York and issue national identity cards through the mission in New York. In response to the questions and demands of the guests present, he reiterated the commitment of the Consulate General to continue its initiatives and efforts in purchasing a new spacious contemporary building for the Bangladesh Consulate General.
