Staff Reporter: Jamaica Bangladesh Association (JBA) distributed blankets to people in New York. The blanket distribution was held last Wednesday (December 6) among more than 300 foreigners and Bangladeshis despite the hostile weather.
Every year very cold during the winter season, frosty winds, snowfall and severe cold flows adversely affect the poor communities, landless people and disrupt the normal way of life of people. Jamaica Bangladesh Association has done humanitarian work by extending the hand of help and sympathy to those cold poor people. Queens Borough President Donavan Richards was the chief guest during the blanket distribution.
Blankets were distributed to over 300 people at 169th Street and Jamaica Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. A short discussion was held before the distribution. It was chaired by President of Jamaica Bangladesh Association Inc. CEO of Golden Age Home Care and weekly Azkal editor Shah Nawaz.
Advisor of the organization MA Osman Gani, prominent social worker Fakhrul Islam Delwar, general secretary Rabbi Syed, vice president Reena Saha, vice general secretary Anjam Siddiqui Rafi, organizing secretary-Lutfar Rahman, executive committee member Mohammad Ali and others participated in the discussion. The event was conducted by the treasurer of the organization Ahnaf Alam.
President of JBA Shah Nawaz said, selflessly helping and serving poor people is the service of humanity. It is such great deeds that advance human civilization. He said, with this small effort, it is not possible to provide winter clothes to all the cold people living in Jamaica. But as a result of this small initiative of ours, we have been able to stand by some people. He thinks that this is the interest of this new organization. He called upon the rich and wealthy people of the society, regardless of caste, religion, caste, party, to stand by the helpless people.
In the blanket distribution ceremony, New York City mayor’s representative, mainstream politicians, journalists and organizers were present on behalf of Asaduzzaman Babu, Maryam Maria, Jolly Ahmed, Advocate Kamruzzaman Babu, Samiul Karim Alamgir, Badruddoza Sagar, Motalib Sikder, Mostafa Anik Raj, Belal Ahmad, Badruddoza Sagar , Moslehuddin Khan Salim, Mahbubul Feroze and Humayun Kabir Tuhin.
